Please understand you are dealing with an infant. There will be accidents along the way.

Oops!

It happens.

Also smacking your pet or rubbing its nose in the puddle is not a recommended procedure. Your pet will automatically become accustomed to going outside if you use the crate method.

Highly recommended.

First thing you need to do is get your Yorkie a proper size crate. One that gives them room for a pillow or mat that they can sleep on. Not much more room than that. Dogs feel very comfortable in a crate. It is a natural comfort zone. TA den so to speak. Yorkshire’s and all dogs for that matter generally do not mess where they sleep. So we are using natures laws to our benefit.

It is going to be tough to put that little one away the first night but be strong. You will be rewarded by not cleaning up mess in the house everyday! I suggest a day of letting the animal play in and around it then put them in for the night. First thing in the morning take them out. A walk is best but just getting them up and out starts the memory process. As soon as you return allow them to eat play for a few minutes and put them straight back to the crate. You are going to want to take them out about every two hours. Remember if they go out and do not “go” then bring them right back to the crate . This is very important so that they come to naturally understand that they “go” outside.

Now here is another hard part but very important. If you are not playing with walking feeding or giving attention to. Leave them in the crate. Remember the animal instinct is to feel “safe in their den”. It is your mind playing tricks on you they are fine.
